Easton is located on the eastern border of Pennsylvania, on the Delaware River. Just 60 miles north of Philadelphia and 65 miles west of New York City, the major cities are easily accessible. But Easton retains a charm all its own: small town charm with a big-city feel. The population is estimated at 26,000 and sits within a region of 540,000.
The Easton community is comprised of unique appointments, and Easton businesses cater to all tastes. Those with a penchant for international cuisine, cozy pubs, antique and specialty shops, yoga and massage studios, and used bookstores will feel at home in the City. The majestic State Theatre draws world-class acts which regularly sell out. Art galleries are tucked in every corner. It is all anchored by local, international brands like Crayola, which has brought 300,000 visitors annually. But this is not all Easton has to offer; alook to the past reveals the foundation on which our City was developed.
The history of Easton is a colorful one, rich with notes of the young nation in the 18th century. Once the core of transportation, culture and commerce, Easton has certainly retained a collective memory of its early days - one of which native Eastonians are proud. Buildings which housed signers of the Declaration and quenched the thirst of pub patrons during the French and Indian War are historic gems. The Easton Farmers’ Market - active in the warmer months, is the oldest market in the United States - and curators have preserved remnants and records of City history (their work can be seen at Northampton County's Historical Museum.)
Visiting and living in Easton are both rewarding, as the cost of living is balanced by a favorable location. The quality of living is complemented by the cultural treasures which Eastonians all share. The campus of Lafayette College rests just three blocks away atop College Hill, which can be seen looking north from downtown. Easton and neighboring Phillipsburg have partnered to hold ‘First Weekends’ each month, where local shops sponsor free events with live music.
